A Scientific Law
"a formulation based on a sequence of natural events occurring with unvarying uniformity under the same conditions."
I. There are three reasons why I believe in God
A. Because Science points to God
B. Because Logic points to God, and
C. Because my experiences in life point to God
II. Reasons why I believe in God
A. Scientifically. Some say regarding faith that you either have to believe in science or have faith in God but the two are mutually exclusive. I disagree! Science and faith go hand in hand, and this is especially true when it comes to the truth about God.
1. Laws that govern science:
a. A law is: "A formulation based on a sequence of natural events occurring with unvarying uniformity under the same conditions." In other words: A law determines what will happen every time, without variation.
b. The basis of every law of nature is: experimental evidence. EVERY relevant experiment conducted must verify the law either directly or indirectly. NO experiment ever conducted can contradict the law. If it does then it is not a law of science.
c. Plainly: A scientific law explains TRUTH to us.
2. Science Law #1: Conservation of Energy
a. Which says: Energy cannot be created or destroyed. Or: Something CANNOT come from nothing.
b. We know this:
(1) Turn on the light switch - light comes on - our electric bill goes up... there is a SOURCE to the energy we use.
(2) We CONVERT one form of energy to another (i.e. wind, flowing river, lightning, heat, etc. can be converted into useful energy). However, we can never CREATE energy.
c. Apply this TRUTH to origins
(1) All that we see could NOT have come from nothing
(2) My problem with the "Big Bang" theory (which states that all of the matter we see in the universe has come from some vacuum or emptiness or “nothing”) is that it violates this law of science... it VIOLATES the TRUTH science has established.
(3) There HAS to be an energy SOURCE and whatever that source is it must be powerful or have energy itself, enough to provide all of the energy we see in the universe.
What Scientific Laws Say About Origins
1. Law of Conservation of Energy
Origin must be powerful and eternal
2. Law of Biogenesis
Origin must be living
3. Law of Entropy
Origin must be greater than man
a. Which says: Life comes from and only from pre-existing life. More simply, life comes from life.
b. We know this:
(1) Animals. We know that all animals today came from parents that were alive. We would never believe that any living animal came from dead, lifeless parents. A scientist would never expect to get a live animal from mixing chemicals together.
(2) Plants. Trees come from other living trees. Every single living thing we see today had a living source.
c. Apply this TRUTH to origins
(1) All of the life now existing came from LIFE.
(2) MY problem with "Spontaneous Generation" (which states that life began from dead, lifeless matter) is that it violates this law of science... it VIOLATES the TRUTH science has established.
(3) The origin of life must be someone living.
4. Science Law #3: Entropy
a. Which says: Everything tends toward DISORDER. Overall, the greater cannot come from the lesser.
b. We know this:
(1) Your car runs down... houses need repairs... your body runs down.
(2) In order to maintain something, energy must constantly be put into the system or else it will run down and come to a halt.
(3) Never, in a general sense, does a river flow upstream, a machine run better over time, or a body not run down unless there is INTELLIGENT input of energy.
c. Apply this TRUTH to life
(1) Present life, with all of its complexities, HAD to come from something greater than us.
(2) My problem with the "Evolutionary Theory" is that it has the simple developing into the complex, the complex developing into greater intelligence, and the DISordered developing into ORDER with no plan, purpose, or design behind it. This theory violates this law of science... it VIOLATES the TRUTH science has established.
(3) The origin of the complexities we see must be a being with intelligence and design capabilities far beyond our own.
5. Therefore: Scientifically, our origin MUST be
a. Powerful and eternal
b. A living being, and
c. Greater than me
d. Note what is said in Romans 1:20: “Ever since the creation of the world his invisible nature, namely, his eternal power and deity, has been clearly perceived in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse”
B. Logically. Some say that God is a CONVENIENT invention man uses to explain the difficult issues of life, and that faith and fact are not related. Again, I disagree! I believe in God NOT because I've IGNORED the evidence, BUT because I've ACCEPTED the evidence.
1. Look at a trial as an example:
a. The jury does not witness the crime
b. They MUST consider the evidence and determine the truth without having seen the crime take place.
2. What is the evidence for God?
A Watch

Recognizing its design and interdependence, what can you say about its origin?
What is then logical to conclude about a vastly more complex universe?
a. Take a watch as an example. What is it's origin? Can you tell me? Did you witness it? How do you know? Are you sure?
b. Could I convince you that my watch exists WITHOUT a maker? Why not? There are at least two reasons why we believe, without a doubt in the world, that my watch was made by someone.
(1) DESIGN - The watch serves a purpose, it keeps time according to the spin of the earth on its axis. The minute hand moves twelve times faster than the hour hand, etc. We will conclude that the maker of the watch had some intelligence (at least about time) in order to design this watch.
(2) INTERDEPENDENCE - The parts that make up the watch, allowing it to function according to the design, depend on each other to function. The parts are not just haphazardly thrown together. The spring causes the gear to move making the second hand move 60 times faster than the minute hand, etc. All the parts work together to accomplish the goal. This functioning together points to a designer.
3. Larger-scale examples
a. The working of the bumble bee, how he makes his home is a mathematical marvel.
b. The process of photosynthesis.
c. The human body - incredibly complex functions showing both design and interdependence.
a. Does a watch exist without a designer? Does a plant or animal (which display far more complexities than a watch) exist without a designer?
b. If I cannot be convinced that my WATCH just "happened" then how in the world can I believe that I just "happened".
C. By Experience. Let’s just think a moment about who we are and how we work.
1. You are different than any other thing on earth.
a. In intellect. The fact that we can develop scientific laws and categorize them and analyze this earth in an attempt to find the truth shows intellect beyond anything else on earth. The fact that we even care about these things says something about us.
b. In aesthetic appreciation. What other being can enjoy the beauties of a sunset or stand in awe of paintings, sculptures, or architectural achievements?
c. In moral consciousness. What other being experiences guilt, or makes choices based on what is right and wrong? Man has a moral consciousness that sets him apart from every other being.
d. What other creature would be talking about origins? What other being contemplates where they are from or where they are going?
2. Evolution cannot begin to explain all of this. Why is it that man alone possesses these qualities? How is it that no other animal has a hint of these? Evolution cannot account for this - but GOD does!
3. Again, the Bible says in Acts 17:24-28 - “The God who made the world and all things in it... He gives to all life and breath and all things; and He made from one, every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times, and the boundaries of their habitation... for in Him we live and move and exist...”
III. Conclusion: I believe in God because...
A. Science points to a living, powerful, eternal being greater than me
B. Logically there is no other choice
C. I'm different, there is something in me that seeks TRUTH and my MAKER
1. “Ever since the creation of the world his invisible nature, namely, his eternal power and deity, has been clearly perceived in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.” (Romans 1:20).
2. The TRUTH is evident, I believe in God.
